iii Arranging photos & photo documentation
Anyone can organize photos through Faculty’s Multimedia service. You need your cost centre and fund number when logging a job. Address: http://jobdesk.monash.edu.au/login/index.cfm?med and select Multimedia. See the photo procedure and list of Monash photo resources on our SPHPM intranet, http://sphpm.med.monash.edu.au/twiki/bin/view/Main/PhotoResources

iv. Monash photo banks
Monash Image Library is a developing resource. It has over 1200 photographs available at no cost for publications and promotional material. http://www.imagelibrary.monash.edu.au/Standard/Login2.jsp There is also Monpix, a Monash archive of historical and contemporary photo resources, at http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/records-archives/archives/monpix/

v. Photos to go subscription for three months
We’ve subscribed for three months to a stock photo library, “Photos to go” at www.photostogo.com.au. You can select generic images for hospital, laboratory, medical, blood products, pharmacy, ambulance, accidents, lifestyle, etc, see sample in pdf download at Item 1 of this news issue. These photos are royalty free, and therefore may be used in any publication, and are provided in a size suitable for reproduction up to A3 poster. Send photo IDs from the website to me for download.
The subscription expires in 60 days i.e. by September 7. Once in the folder, click ‘View’ and select either thumbnails or filmstrip to view images. If you require a high resolution image, I will email it to you.

vi. Promotional video clip
We have a web first for the Faculty – a video clip of Prof Paul Myles for the Perioperative Medicine short course, www.med.monash.edu.au/epidemiology/shortcrs/2009/perioperative-summary.html to give visitors an idea about the course. If interested in doing something similar, see video guidelines in V:\epm\Department\Communications\Photography, video\Procedures.

vii. Web page updating
Web traffic analysis using Google analytics indicates that the most visited pages on the DEPM website are the people pages, followed by the postgraduate and short course pages. What this means is that a majority of visitors want to know more about who is working here and what they do. Having updated, current staff web pages is valuable. Lilya Sher is updating web page bi-ographies, starting with senior staff. Could you please give prompt attention to requests for updating your page

Research governance

Dr Megan Brooks has picked up from Brad Crammond, in undertaking the Research Governance Coordinator role for the School. She has joined SPHPM after a short stint as Ethics Coordinator at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Prior to Peter Mac, Megan worked with Prof Graham Brown to establish the Centre for Clinical Research Excellence in Infectious Diseases at the University of Melbourne/ Royal Melbourne Hospital and managed the Centre for almost 5 years.

Megan completed her PhD in virology in 2003 and prior to this worked with Prof Greg Tannock in influenza vaccine and drug development at the NATA-accredited Vaccine Evaluation Section at RMIT. Megan has lectured in basic virology and clinical research, taught animal cell culture at TAFE, tutored in microbiology and immunology and will be coordinating the MPH2083 subject "Good Research Practice".

Appointed as Senior Research Fellow, Megan is the Research Governance Officer and is available to provide guidance to researchers on adhering to the legislation and guidelines governing research. Megan will also facilitate the auditing of projects to ensure compliance and to see where DEPM can improve support to researchers to allow them to meet their obligations. Megan is currently enrolled in a post-graduate law degree at Monash University. She will usually work Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Megan reports:

The 3 July 09 Monash Research Office Bulletin contains an alert to recent changes made to the HREC application forms as well as a name change for the Standing Committee on Ethics in Research Involving Humans (SCERH). The Committee will now be known as the Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee (MUHREC).

All researchers completing new applications to MUHREC are asked to download and use the latest forms (which is good prac-tice anyway!). See link for more information: www.monash.edu.au/researchoffice/bulletin/article.php?ed=2009-07-03&article=11

Anyone wishing to subscribe to the Bulletin can do so via the Monash Research Office bulletin web page (follow the link above and click on 'Return to Bulletin').
