Marketing & Communications update: Photos, Event notification

i. Staff photos

Next Faculty photographer visit is booked for Wednesday 16 September, 2-3 pm, DEPM foyer. If your photo is not on file, or is old, please be photographed: email Julia.veitch@med.monash.edu.au to arrange. To check, staff photos are kept in the V drive, at V:\epm\Department\Staff Photo.

ii. Group (Unit, Section, etc) photos

iii Arranging photos & photo documentation

Anyone can organize photos through Faculty’s Multimedia service. You need your cost centre and fund number when logging a job. Address: jobdesk.monash.edu.au/login/index.cfm?med and select Multimedia. See the photo procedure and list of Monash photo resources on our SPHPM intranet, http://sphpm.med.monash.edu.au/twiki/bin/view/Main/PhotoResources

iv. Photos to go subscription for three months

Our three month subscription for the stock photo library, “Photos to go” at www.photostogo.com.au expires 7 September. Hundreds of images have been downloaded, of generic images for hospital, laboratory, medical, blood products, pharmacy, ambulance, accidents, lifestyle, etc, see sample at right. These photos are royalty free, and therefore may be used in any publication, and are provided in a size suitable for reproduction up to A3 poster. Low resolution images are stored at: V:\epm\Department\Communications\Photography, video\photo library\Photostogo.com.au stock. Once in the folder, click ‘View’ and select either thumbnails or filmstrip to view images. If you require a high resolution image, I will email it to you.

A PHAA and AEA joint initiative

A workshop showcasing higher degree public health student research in epidemiology and public health is being offered by the Australasian Epidemiology Association and the Public Health Association of Australia. This is an opportunity for students from all Victorian universities to meet and network, and to listen to and appreciate one other's work, and learn together. We will have time to discuss projects in early development, work in progress and completed projects. Book tokens will be awarded for each of the best epidemiology and public health presentations. Monash University - PhD opportunities in one of Australia's largest teaching and research hospital precincts: Information Evening 15 September 2009*

The Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (DEPM) provides a dynamic environment for research in a wide range of discipline areas, including occupational and environmental health, emergency and trauma, intensive care, biostatistics, epidemiological modeling, cardiovascular health, respiratory health, clinical pharmacology and more. DEPM research programs include global linkages, partnerships and collaborations. A stimulating and well-resourced research environment is enhanced by co-location with related research institutions at The Alfred Hospital precinct.

DEPM has a very strong record of achievement in doctoral training, with many outstanding alumni. Graduates hold prestigious post-doctoral awards and secure senior positions in Australia and overseas.
