| Contents | DEPM Environmental Action Survey undertaken by Rosanne Freak-PoliDuring 2009, PhD student Rosanne Freak-Poli developed and administered a survey regarding environmentally friendly ac-tions which DEPM employees could individually take and which could be enacted in DEPM policy. See attached Survey for full details. The recommendation which would have the most significant environmental impact yet have little effect on people’s lifestyles is increasing the proportion of vegetarian food, and indeed a majority of respondents wanted 50% or more of the catering to be vegetarian. For example, producing 1 kg of yearling beef takes 40,000 litres of water, as the feed grown for the animal to eat requires water, as well as all the water drunk by the animal during its lifetime, and the water used in processing its production - see www.theage.com.au/news/letters/when-it-takes-5000-litres-to-make-a-big-mac/2006/10/11/1160246195717.html?page=fullpage. And has anyone ever noticed how all the vegetarian sandwiches seem to go first? However, every little helps, and there are plenty of small things people can do to make a difference.Attached Files: DEPM_EnvironmentallyFriendlyPolicySurvey_Report.doc 1159 KiloBytes | Contents | Births, deaths and marriagesDeb Roberts was safely delivered of little Oliver Roberts, born on Wed Sept 30. “He was the littlest of our 3 boys at 8 lb 3 oz.
